Second Project

I'm having trouble with the second project. The part where we have to hit ctrl c and ctrl m I'm doing that and it's not opening a new layer and in the beginning where we doing the dots and you made one of the dots bigger I couldn't do that neither. So I don't know what I'm doing wrong

    "Now, use the square marquee tool and hold down the shift and alt keys. find selected areas you think might have interesting designs. Copy the selection (ctrl-C), open a new document (ctrl-N), ok, then paste the segment (ctrl-V)."

    These short cuts are common to Microsoft Word too... Ctrl>N for file new... not ctrl M... that is the command to open the curves dialog box.

    Watch the video again and pause it as you go along!

    I've been following the video and doing the steps in the video and it's not doing the same as the video
